Which languages the UK needs most and why
The British Council commissioned a survey to establish the long term language needs of the UK. The results provide a strategic analysis, looking at a variety of economic, geopolitical, cultural and educational factors including the needs of UK businesses, the UK’s overseas trade targets, diplomatic and security priorities, and prevalence on the internet.
The following countries have been identified as the languages most vital to the UK over the next 20 years:-
