Creative Sheffield Export Market Development Pilot

What

Creative Sheffield has secured funding under the City Council’s Keep Sheffield Working Programme to pilot an export ‘bootcamp’ over the next 6 months. The programme will work with 30 businesses between November and April who are looking to grow their business by developing or expanding their export activity.

The emphasis will be on working proactively with businesses new to exporting and those with only limited experience. The practical programme of support covers research into markets, finding customers and getting paid and will be customised to the needs of each participant. We will also provide hands on support from our Programme Manager, experienced export mentors and access to the services of partners such as UKTI, South Yorkshire International Trade Forum and the Chamber of Commerce. Businesses will also benefit from a unique tie up with the British Bankers Association, which will give us unprecedented access to export finance expertise and other market intelligence.

When

The programme will be tailored to the business’ needs so timing will be flexible. Some sessions may be delivered in groups, where there are common issues we need to address. However, we are looking to commence the programme in November with a view to deliver tangible initial results by April. Beyond that we expect to remain in touch with participants to support follow up activities.

Who

There are no fixed criteria for companies coming on board. However, we are looking to recruit businesses which: have achieved demonstrable growth or have the capacity to grow, have an experienced and committed management team and have no or limited experience of exporting, but have products or services likely to be of interest internationally. Above all, the companies should be capable of committing resources to overseas market development over a 12 month period.

The Deal

Each participant will benefit from a small grant of up £2,000 to £3,000 to be invested in identifying their opportunities and finding the most effective ways of exploiting these. This may also work alongside support from UKTI, SYITF and Creative Sheffield. Whilst the funding may make a difference, the real investment will be the time, energy and commitment of the business.
